Appam Batter -1

Appam is a type of pancake made with fermented rice batter and coconut . This is a popular South Indian dish .

Ingredients

  • 2 cup Sliky raw rice
  • 1 cup Grated coconut
  • 1 cup Cooked rice
  • 3 tbsp Sugar
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 1 1/4 cup Water
  • 3/4 tsp Instant Dry Yeast
  • 1 tsp Baking Soda

Directions

Soak the rice for 3-4 hrs . Drain the rice and grind it along with other ingredients into smooth batter . Add instant dry yeast . Keep it in a warm place for fermentation .

Once it is fermented , add soda powder . If the batter is too thick ,add water . The batter should not be too thick nor watery .

Heat appam pan . Grease it well with gingelly oil . Make appams by pouring the batter into the center and gently spreading it on to the sides . Cover it with a heavy lid and let it cook for a minute or two .

Use a spatula to remove the appam from the pan .
